Canterbury-based racer Ryan Lawford is looking for a good result in the first round of the British Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill on March 24th.
The raly driver believes a good finish will help him to secure the financial support to continue in the championship for the rest of the year.
Lawford will drive a Supernational Ford Fiesta, the self-employed racer and motor sport engineer having struck a deal with British champion Julian Godfrey to use the car in this event, and for the rest of the year.
“The offer is there to race the car all year and I’ve several companies that are interested in joining me, but I need to get a result at Lydden and prove myself,” said Lawford.
The 25-year-old has been an event winner in the Stock Hatch and Swift Sport championships but who crashed the Fiesta while leading the final in his first Supernational event last August.
“I’ve worked harder than I’ve ever worked in my life to get to the position where I can race at Lydden, I’ve rebuilt the car with Julian who has included lots of little improvements he’d wanted to make, so I think it will be better than ever,” said Lawford.
Lawford served his engineering apprenticeship with the G-Tech team run by multiple champion Will Gollop and continues to be mentored by Britain’s most successful Rallycross driver.
“Everyone who was involved with the G-Tech team is going to help me run the car at Lydden and Will is going to be at the event to help engineer and to advise me so I’ve got a great team behind me,” said Lawford.
